The Hemodialysis Academy

The Hemodialysis Academy has become the foundational curriculum providing in-depth instruction on the theory and veterinary applications of extracorporeal therapies. Over 700 trainees from 32 countries throughout the world have participated in past Academies. The legacy continues with the start of the 7th Hemodialysis Academy providing a 13-month intensive online curriculum and certification in the principles and veterinary applications of blood purification therapies.

The 2026-2027 Hemodialysis Academy provides more than 140 hours of instruction from the world’s leading renal medicine and extracorporeal experts on the principles, basic science, and clinical applications of intermittent hemodialysis, continuous renal replacement therapy, hemoadsorption, therapeutic apheresis (plasma exchange, plasma adsorption, and cytapheresis), peritoneal dialysis, acute and chronic kidney failure, and operation of an extracorporeal program.

The web-based curriculum provides a combination of live, interactive, archived, and self-paced modules, and is available to veterinarians worldwide. Enrollees participate in real-time or by archived recordings in one-hour lectures and discussions sessions on Monday and Wednesday, one-hour live problem-solving sessions on Wednesday, and extracorporeal rounds on Friday. The curriculum is punctuated with online laboratory sessions and live interactive streaming of actual extracorporeal treatments from prominent extracorporeal centers. The 2026-2027 Academy is sanctioned by the ACVNU as a component of its educational mission.
